EXPECT

Every year I choose one word.

I realized that every resolution I had ever made prior was a list of who I was tired of being rather than who God wants me to become. My one word replaces the broken promises with a vision for a true and real change.

This year my one word was “expect.” Although, I was expecting a baby, that wasn’t the only focus for my change in 2019. God showed me that many of us have had negative perceptions and experiences of expectations. Expectations lead to disappointments and hurt.

And it’s true, expectations can disappoint us.

So, I went on the hunt all year to find the positive perspectives of “expect.” Here are few things God had me experience this year:

  • Patience provides proof of every positive expectation.

  • I will have what my faith expects.

  • Pray with expectation: Learn to expect good things. Expect miracles to happen.

  • Expect the unexpected. Especially, those moments when full intrusions of beauty interrupt; just allow it!

  • Release your expectations of others.

When I am called by God to do something because it simply needs to be done, He expects me to do it with joy and excellence.

“This is why I wait upon you, expecting your breakthrough, for your word brings me hope.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭130:5‬ ‭TPT‬‬

As we approach a new decade, pure excitement stirs in my soul. Not only for what is to come, but all that has happened leading up to this very moment. This time of reflection is so important because we get to truly see all that God has done and is doing in our lives. We are ever-changing! So, toss out your list of who you’re tired of being and allow God to show you who you really are in 2020.
