“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and in His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
What a treasure is ours in Isaiah, our prophesied Messiah. He is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.
For many years people had longed, anticipated, and expected a Prince to come and rescue them by annihilating their adversaries.
Little did they know that Jesus would not come with war and armor, but as a precious child wrapped in swaddling clothes. As peace, our Prince of Peace was born to give us the greatest inheritance of all.
The name “Prince of Peace” is the Hebrew Shar Shalom, which means “the one who removes all peace-disturbing factors and secures the peace.” Biblical peace is much fuller than our original understanding of peace.
When Jesus was born, He was instantly set apart from those human rulers whose reign was in pride and depended on bloody conquests. Jesus was humbly born to suffer and to save, and His rule rests on a bloody sacrifice on our behalf. What a contrast to such biblical kings!
I think it is important that we recognize who Jesus is, because then, we can respond to Jesus as our Prince of Peace, we must know that peace is also our inheritance. “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.”- 1John 3:1
To inherit means to receive an irrevocable gift. Unlike a legal inheritance, our promised inheritance through Jesus can never perish, spoil, or fade.
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 NKJV
“Glory to God in the highest realms of heaven? For there is peace and a good hope given to the sons of men.” Luke 2:14
Because we are His, we inherit what is His.
As God’s children, peace is a promised part of our inheritance, a genetic transmission to bestow a legacy that we receive as a right and divine portion to be passed onto the generations.
Peace is a continual gift to us, bounteously, with no strings attached. It flows in abundance from the throne of grace. When we petition in prayer and thanksgiving, we are given His sufficient peace.
We have been uniquely designed to need Jesus moment to moment.
Just like the Israelites who could not store up manna for the future but gather it daily, it is the same with His Peace. We need His peace to accomplish our very purpose in life. Peace and His presence are a resource from heaven we must hunger for daily.
We need peace to accomplish our purposes in life.
Our Prince of Peace has shown us that He can bring peace wherever He rules.
His peace covers us in times of trial, our relationships, our maturing, and even in our victories.
His peace renews us and brings us to the still waters and restores our soul.
His peace is the very presence of God.
We are called to seek peace and pursue it. We are called to seek God and pursue Him. And in that we will find rest.
May we give Him our full devotion, as we gaze in wonder at the great God that He is!
I pray that we will continue to live fully in our true inheritance and walk with Jesus along the path of Peace, enjoying the journey in His Presence allowing Him to rule and reign as our Prince of Peace.
